If you like retro throwbacks this is for you. Some modern touches do bring the experience down, so it might just be better off to dust of the original games it's trying to mimic, but there's still some fun to be had here. It's a solid old-school game that will please those gamers who like taking nostalgic trips to the past every now and then. Buying an upgrade that lets you shoot more than one bullet at a time helps with this, but they are one of the most expensive upgrades. So that either means you have to hit an enemy or if you miss wait for the bullet to go off-screen before you can shoot again. You have to wait for your bullet to disappear before you can fire again. Shooting is slower than it needs to be though. The gameplay itself is old-school solid and pretty fun. Deaths that will send you back to the starting level of the current planet you are on. It's not a huge issue as the game isn't too hard, but it can lead to some irritating deaths. You're barely able to buy a single upgrade before a tough level. The problem is the easier ones barely give you any at all. The harder levels are the ones where you'll get the most money like you would expect. It's hard to buy meaningful upgrades when you are too busy buying health in order to just survive the next wave. However it's brought down by the fact that you have to pay in order to refill your health. The whole idea of getting money from destroying enemies in order to upgrade you ship is a good one. These modern touches are actually where the biggest issues are present. Boss battles are also present as well as an in-game currency system that is used to upgrade your ship. You have to make it through all the different planets in order to beat the game. Modern touches are present however that make for some new objectives. As you might expect from that the goal is to shoot down enemies before they make it down to the bottom of the screen and get a high-score.
